ACTION ALERT-Caliente Cab Company HATES Queers!

A lesbian woman, Khadijah Farmer, was using the women's bathroom at Caliente on June 24th during Gay Pride, until a bouncer knocked on the stall and told her to get out for apparently looking too masculine. Farmer showed the bouncer her ID which says her legal sex is female, but still the bouncer was not convinced. She, her girlfriend, and a friend who were all patronizing the restaurant, were told to pay their check immediately and leave the premises.

THIS IS BLATANT HOMOPHOBIA AND TRANSPHOBIA! The Queer Justice League will not allow it to continue!

In response, QJL will be holding an action in front of Caliente in the West Village* on July 15th at 1pm. It will be a good ol' picket line with signs and chants demanding the restaurant comply with the requests Farmer and the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund are asking for: 1.) enforce a policy barring discrimination on the basis of gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation 2.) train staff to comply with all laws protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons, 3.) compensate Farmer for the violation of her civil rights.

In addition, the QJL insists the restaurant publicly apologize.

So far, the restaurant management has remained silent! How INFURIATING!

All queers are superheroes! Unleash your powers within and join us in support of Farmer for this very important demonstration to let businesses know that they cannot discriminate against us or our community!**

*Caliente is located at the intersection of 7th Ave. and Bleecker St.

**On Thursday, July 12th at the regular QJL meeting, we will be making posters and brainstorming chants. If you would like to be involved in organizing this action, attend the meeting at 8pm in the LGBT Center.
